Reset Modem to Default
You may want to reset your modem to the factory default settings for one or more of the following reasons:
- You want to change from a router mode configuration to a bridge mode configuration
- You want to change from a bridge mode configuration to a router mode configuration
- You have made changes to modem settings (such as firewall settings) and you want to start over
- You have changed the password to configure the modem and have forgotten the password
- Many other possible reasons
Before you begin, please make sure you have identified your modem by following the instructions on the "Identify My Modem" page.
Follow the instructions that apply to your modem type:
- Zoom X4 (1-port)
- Zoom X5 (4-port)
- Zoom X6 (4-port + wireless)
- SpeedStream 4200 (1-port)
- SpeedStream 6520 (4-port + wireless)
- Siemens Gigaset SE567 (4-port + wireless)
Instructions for Zoom X4 (1-port)
There are two methods you can use to reset your Zoom X4 to factory default: hardware and software. The hardware method is easier and quicker, so you should try that first.
Hardware Method
There is a little RESET pinhole on the back of your Zoom X4 modem. Using a paper clip (or other similar pointed object), push in the RESET button for a full 5 seconds. This should cause the light pattern to change on the the front of your modem. When the lights settle back into their usual pattern, the reset is complete. This may take 1-2 minutes. Do not turn your modem off during this time. If the hardware reset doesn't work, you can try again.
Your modem is now reset to the default factory settings. You can now follow the "Reconfigure Modem" instructions to reconfigure your modem in router mode (for most people), or you can follow the instructions to "Configure Bridge Mode" (for unusual situations) according to your requirements.
Software Method
These instructions are slightly different depending on whether you are connecting to the Zoom X4 using Ethernet or USB. If you are using USB, please make sure you have installed the USB drivers on your computer first by following the "Installing USB Drivers" instuctions. Also, make sure your modem is hooked up properly by following the instructions for "Connecting Cables".
Open a web browser, such as Internet Explorer.
If you are using Ethernet, in the Address bar type "10.0.0.2" and hit the ENTER key on your keyboard.
Or, if you are using USB, in the Address bar type "10.0.0.3" and hit the ENTER key on your keyboard.
The following window should pop up. (The window will look slightly different if you are using USB.) You may have to wait a little while. Type "admin" in the "User Name" box and type "zoomadsl" in the password box and click on the "OK" button.
You should see the Basic Setup screen:
Click on "Advanced Setup".
Scroll down to the bottom to the "Administration" section. Click on the "Reboot" button.
You should now be on the "Reboot" screen:
For "Reboot Mode" choose "Reboot From Default Configuration":
Click on the "Reboot" button:
You should see the following screen. It make take 2 minutes for the Zoom X4 to reboot. Please just be patient and do not turn the modem off. When the modem is done, you should be back at the "Basic Setup" screen. If you are still waiting after 3 minutes, you can try refreshing the page.
Your modem is now reset to the default factory settings. You can now follow the "Reconfigure Modem" instructions to reconfigure your modem in router mode (for most people), or you can follow the instructions to "Configure Bridge Mode" (for unusual situations) according to your requirements.
Instructions for Zoom X5 (4-port)

The hardware method of resetting your SpeedStream 4200 modem is quick, easy, and reliable. It is the recommended method for resetting your 4200.
There is a little RESET pinhole on the back of your SpeedStream 4200 modem. Using a paper clip (or other similar pointed object), push in the RESET button for a full 5 seconds, until the power light turns red. (Do not hold in the button for longer than 10 seconds, or the reset will be cancelled.) When the lights settle back into their usual pattern, the reset is complete. This may take 1-2 minutes. Do not turn your modem off during this time. If the hardware reset doesn't work, you can try again.
